A long-planned replacement of the World War II-era airplane hangar at Katama Airfield is slated to come before Edgartown voters this spring as the town takes a new direction in managing the grass airfield.

In April, residents of Edgartown will be asked to vote on a warrant article to reconstruct the historic Katama Airfield hangar. The airfield’s commissioners are asking you to vote "yes" for the warrant article.

After eight years of legal wrangling, Edgartown selectmen cleared the way Monday for a new aircraft hangar at Katama Airfield.

Edgartown selectmen agreed on Monday to the terms of a deal hammered out with The Nature Conservancy (TNC) that would allow the town to replace one of two hangars at Katama airfield with a much larger hangar and bring an end to a tussle with the national conservation organization that’s lasted more than eight years.

The Katama Airfield Trust is an endowed preservation fund recorgnized by the IRS under 501C3 Plan.
